Bereavement and loss are among the most painful traumas that human beings will ever experience! The feelings may be overwhelming and having to arrange a funeral or memorial service can be bewildering! I am professionally experienced in working with bereavement and understand that depth of pain and suffering. I would like to offer you my services as an Independent Funeral Officiant to help you to create a fitting tribute to your loved one as you say your final goodbye, whether you choose a religious, semi-religious or totally non religious funeral service. Having to organise a funeral for someone you love is probably the hardest task you will ever have to carry out so I am here to help you.

What is an Independent Funeral Celebrant?

An Independent Funeral Celebrant is unrestricted by religious or civil formalities, having been trained to a high professional standard of excellence in creating and conducting funeral ceremonies. As an Independent Funeral Celebrant I can make your loved one’s funeral a fitting tribute to their life.

Why choose an Independent Funeral Celebrant?

Increasing numbers of people are opting for non religious funeral services and are feeling that it is more appropriate for them to choose a Funeral Celebrant to conduct a semi-religious or totally non religious funeral ceremony.

How does it work?

I will work closely with you before the day so that your personal wishes are fully included. Then on the day of the funeral I will conduct the service and ensure that everything runs smoothly.

What does an Independent Funeral Celebrant do?

I will participate as much or as little as you choose in composing your funeral ceremony in order to fully and accurately pay tribute to your loved one. You may like to consider incorporating some creative ideas, all of which I can help you with if you wish.
Poems, either sourced or personally written
Favourite pieces of music, either recorded or performed live
Your own personal creative ideas

If you are not sure about the type of funeral you want, we can discuss it and explore the options, although your funeral director will probably have already discussed this with you. The options for funerals not taking place in a church are cremation, burial in a cemetery or burial in a natural burial ground.

By arrangement I will visit you in your home or at the funeral director’s if you prefer. The meeting will be relaxed and informal so that I can get to know you and gain an insight into your loved one’s life and personality. I understand that it is essential for me to capture the essence of who they were in an accurate and meaningful way so that their life will be beautifully acknowledged and portrayed through every moment of the service. Together we will compose a fitting tribute: I will help you to prepare the right atmosphere and guide you in how you may like to include some creative ideas, such as music, poems, candles, single flower offerings, memory book and more. I will also help you with any dilemnas you may have about the funeral venue and order of service. I will then write a service and eulogy and send you a copy before the day of the funeral. Once you have read it and confirmed any changes I will prepare a final copy which I will bring on the day for you to keep.

On the day of the funeral, I will conduct the service as planned and will support you in every way I can so that your loved one is appropriately honoured.

Feeling comforted and reassured that all your wishes and needs have been heard, honoured, discussed and attended to will undoubtedly help you to cope with the devastating feelings of the day. I assure you of my best attention throughout.

Memorial / Celebration of Life Services

Many people choose to say goodbye to their loved one privately with just a few family members present, be that in a crematorium, cemetery or natural burial ground and follow this with a larger memorial or celebration of life service. There are also some occasions where there is no body available for a funeral service. In these circumstances the family will often create a beautiful memorial service as a celebration of their loved one’s life. This can take place at any venue of your choice. On these occasions several or even many family members and friends may be invited to participate, perhaps choosing a meaningful theme with a variety of creative and symbolic ideas to meaningfully portray their message. As with creating a funeral (see above) I can help and support you through every detail of your memorial service and will officiate on the day as much or as little as you choose. As with a funeral, I will give you a presentation copy of the service to keep.

Interment of Ashes

At a later date after the funeral and cremation many people choose to inter their loved one’s ashes in a place of their choice. I can discuss the options with you and, as with a funeral, create a beautiful and meaningful funeral ceremony.

Scattering of Ashes

At a date of your choice, I will be happy to accompany you and any other chosen family members or friends to mark the significant moment of scattering your loved one’s ashes at a previously agreed venue, offering a short, simple but very meaningful funeral ceremony.

Pet Memorials

The death of a treasured pet is devastating and increasing numbers of people are choosing to honour their loved animal with a funeral ceremony, be it a burial, a memorial or perhaps an interment of ashes. Many people feel comforted by this final act of saying goodbye.

I can help you to create a fitting tribute to your pet in a location of your choice, such as a garden or pet cemetery and this will include a commemorative copy of the funeral ceremony for you to keep.

I feel privileged to be entrusted with this work and look forward to serving you. Thank you.
